What is Valeda?

A New Approach to Treat Dry AMD without Injections or Surgery

Valeda is a breakthrough, non-invasive treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that uses photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy to rejuvenate and protect vision. This safe, painless treatment delivers specific light wavelengths to stimulate cellular energy production, reduce inflammation, and support retinal health.

Valeda offers new hope for those in the early to intermediate stages of dry AMD, helping preserve vision and maintain quality of life without the need for injections or surgery.

Why Valeda?

See the Difference with Valeda: Proven Results for Dry AMD

  • Reduced Drusen Volume: Drusen, which obstructs vision in dry AMD, is can be reduced, improving central vision and contrast.
  • Improved Visual Acuity: Studies demonstrate significant gains in visual sharpness for AMD patients post-Valeda treatment.
  • FDA-Approved: The first FDA approved, clinically proven treatment for Dry Eye AMD.

What is AMD?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common condition that affects central vision. It usually first affects people in later life.
  • AMD risk is linked to ageing, smoking, poor diet, UV exposure, high blood pressure, being overweight and having a family history of AMD.
  • It does not cause total blindness, but it can make things like reading and recognising faces difficult due to changes in central vision.
  • Vision loss in dry AMD progresses slowly and gradually over a number of years. Wet AMD presents more acutely and progresses much more rapidly.

Symptoms of  AMD

AMD can make tasks such as reading, watching TV, driving or recognising faces difficult.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects central vision, not the edges (peripheral vision). AMD can present in one eye or both.

The first symptom is often a blurred or distorted area in the centre of your vision. Left untreated this blurred area can worsen and grow in size.

Other symptoms include:

  • Seeing straight lines as wavy or crooked.
  • Being sensitive to bright light.
  • In more advanced disease, seeing things that are not there (hallucinations) – caused by Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

When I first heard about Valeda, I was hopeful but a bit nervous about trying something new. The team at Peter Ivins Eye Care put me at ease from the start, explaining every step and making sure I felt comfortable. The treatments were quick and painless, and I loved how personalized the care was. Knowing I’m doing something proactive to support my eye health has been empowering, and I feel more confident about the future. Valeda has been a wonderful experience.

Tracy, Glasgow

As a retired orthopaedic surgeon, I approached my dry macular disease diagnosis with concern. The Valeda light therapy at Peter Ivins Eye Care has been truly transformative. My vision has stabilized, and I feel more confident in daily life. The team's expertise and care have been outstanding throughout the process.

Fergus, Glasgow

A family member was given an emergency appointment after developing an acute eye condition. We had a consultation with Mr Ivins himself - what a lovely gentleman, and very experienced. We're very delighted with the consultation and pleased there was a scanning machine onsite, that allowed Mr Ivins to arrive at a diagnosis. We shan't be going elsewhere in future.
